Treasurer

Summary

We’re looking for someone to take on the role of Treasurer of Family Nature Summits. This is a volunteer position that is critical to the health of the organization. As Treasurer, you will be responsible for financial oversight of Family Nature Summits with the goal of ensuring that the organization stays financially strong, and meets its legal and fiscal obligations. The ideal candidate will bring some finance or accounting experience, but more importantly attention to detail and general quantitative skills. While our paid staff will be responsible for day-to-day financial operations like sending bills, processing payments, and making bookkeeping entries, you will be the person responsible for overseeing the whole process and ensuring that the President and Board understand the financial big picture and can make critical decisions accordingly.

Core responsibilities

  • Act as CFO of the Family Nature Summits organization
  • Ensure that we have a clear picture of our financial health by creating and carefully reviewing monthly P&L, Cash Flow, and Balance Sheets and proposing solutions to pressing financial considerations that arise.
  • Create the annual budget for the organization. Interface with the President and paid staff to ensure that our budget is responsible and our spending and revenues match our budgeted numbers.
  • Manage the bookkeeping process with the help of paid staff to ensure all expenses and revenues are correctly accounted for in Quickbooks.
  • Provide our hired accountants with the necessary statements and context that they will need to prepare and file our annual tax return.
  • Consult with our paid staff whenever questions arise about accounting or financial issues.

Commitment

  • 2-year term with option to serve a maximum of 2 terms.
  • Term begins in October.
  • Less than 10 hours per month

Requirements

  • Strong quantitative reasoning skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Prior accounting or financial planning experience a plus, but no technical accounting/finance skills or training required
  • Ability to concisely articulate financial considerations to a lay audience
  • Ability to delegate tasks while maintaining strong oversight of the results
  • Ability to prioritize and focus on the most important tasks and say “no” to things that distract from them
  • Good problem solving skills

Compensation

  • This is a volunteer position. The ideal candidate sees this as a chance to guide and strengthen an organization with an important environmental mission, and shape the organization’s priorities.
