Earth Day / Field Trip Preview

In honor of Earth Day, we have put together the following pictorial of our Summiteers celebrating this fabulous planet we inhabit.

Also, please scroll through to the bottom to find out more about our Field Trip to the UC Davis Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences. Here they are focused on Lake Tahoe’s water quality, physical processes and ecology of Lake Tahoe and its watershed. Ultimately, they want to understand how our precious freshwater ecosystems are responding to change.

Summiteers celebrate Earth Day every day!

THEY BIKE

THEY CARPOOL

THEY PICK UP TRASH

OR WHATEVER… (One person’s trash is another person’s treasure)

THEY CARE FOR TREES

….AND ALL OF THE CREATURES OF THE WORLD

FOR SUMMITEERS EVERY DAY IS EARTH DAY!

FIELD TRIP – SNEAK PREVIEW

Tahoe Science Center & Green Building Tour

Field Trip: In celebration of Earth Day, we wanted to provide a Sneak Peak of one of our upcoming Family Nature Summits’ Field Trips. We will be touring the UC Davis Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences.

We will learn about the research taking place, experience a 3-dimensional model of Lake Tahoe and dive under the water, and board a virtual research vessel where we will discover how scientists study water quality at Lake Tahoe.

In addition, we will learn about sustainable design, construction and landscaping, and see examples of the efficient uses of resources. The Tahoe Science Center was awarded a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum certification. There will be numerous “Green Points of Interest” highlighted throughout the building. One example – the building’s walls are insulated with recycled cotton denim jeans!
